Immigration New Zealand announced reforms to the Accredited Employer Work Visa requirements in December 2024.  We expect a number of changes to be announced throughout the year ahead

The first 2 AEWV changes were announced today (23 January), taking effect from 27th January 2025.

Employment modules requirement to be discontinued

Key staff involved in hiring decisions for Accredited Employers, and Recognised Seasonal Employers, will no longer need to complete these modules as they are being discontinued by Employment New Zealand.

In addition, Accredited Employers need no longer provide paid time off for employees to complete Employment New Zealand’s modules. Immigrants will continue to be advised of their employment rights by Immigration New Zealand.

The new policy will apply to those applications for employer accreditation or job checks submitted before 27 January 2025 and still in progress.

 Construction labour hire firms change:

Currently, where an employer is using a triangular employment arrangement and is applying for a Job Check for certain construction roles, they must ensure that at least 35% of their workforce are New Zealand citizens or residents. This is being reduced to 15%.
