Immigration New Zealand has announced changes to Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV) rules. These changes affect students studying Postgraduate Diplomas (PGDip) and Masters degrees.
What’s New?
- Students who complete 30 weeks of PGDip study and then move to a Masters can now get a PSWV based on their PGDip, even if their Masters is shorter than 30 weeks (note this is likely a 12-month PSWV)
- Students have 12 months from the end of their first qualification’s student visa to apply for a PSWV
For a 3-year PSWV, students still need to complete at least 30 weeks of full-time Masters study in New Zealand.
These changes give international students more flexibility in their study plans while keeping their work rights in New Zealand.
